The Via delle Giulie Captivates Athletes and Spectators, Crowning Tadei Pivk and Fanny Boria as King and Queen of the True Julian Alps.
In a spectacular setting, the 5th edition of the Via delle Giulie, a mountain running race, took place in Sella Nevea (UD) on Saturday, July 13th. The event is part of the National Fisky (Italian Skyrunning Federation) and the Regional FVG Trailrunning Tour 2024 calendars, introducing a new format featuring three courses that traversed the Jof Fuart group and the Canin massif. The race attracted over 200 participants, with 30% of the athletes coming from 10 different countries, drawn to the capital of the Julian Alps to explore the hidden and idyllic corners of the Italian Julian Alps Biosphere Reserve. The high trails, alpine fauna, and flora that have always characterized this paradise accompanied the numerous athletes as they challenged each other on the courses, which were safely prepared by the skilled staff.
In the 40k Marathon course, Tadei Pivk (Team Aldo Moro Nortec) dominated the men’s field with a fantastic time of 05:01:54, while Fanny Boria (Verzegnis TRM Team) won the women’s field with a splendid performance of 07:39:12. In the 25k Medium race, there was a great battle on the high trails of the Prevala basin between the Italian national team member Luca Carrara (Team North Face) and Lorenzo Butazzoni, with the latter prevailing in the final technical descent of Goriuda, finishing with a time of 02:38:36. In the 15k Short race, at the peak of the race at Gilberti refuge, the Austrian Michael Kunstl raced solo to the Sella Nevea finish line, stopping the clock at 01:54:06. In the women’s field, a remarkable Elena Marchetti (ASD Prealpi Giulie) won solo, crossing the finish line with arms raised.
Thus, the Via delle Giulie edition already looks forward to 2025, with many new features, positioning itself as an event of significant interest.
